About Bellflower

First Electric provides residential and commercial electrical services in Bellflower, CA. Bellflower's mid-century homes built during the post-World War II boom typically have 60 to 100-amp electrical panels that struggle with modern demands including multiple air conditioning units, home offices, EV chargers, and smart home devices. Many homeowners discover their panels are at capacity when adding appliances, installing EV chargers, or undertaking remodels. We specialize in upgrading mid-century homes while preserving architectural character, updating outdated wiring, installing GFCI and AFCI protection, and ensuring systems meet current California Electrical Code. We handle all Bellflower permit applications.

Process Questions

How do I get a quote for panel upgrades in Bellflower?

We do not give blind estimates over the phone. After we understand your Bellflower project and, when needed, visit the site, we provide a custom written quote with scope and pricing spelled out. Call (657) 239-6331 to start.

How long does a panel upgrade take?

Most panel change-outs take one day (often 4–8 hours of power-off work). Utility meter appointments, underground service, or a full service relocation can add schedule time. We confirm the timeline after we see your panel and coordinate with the utility when needed.

Service Questions

Can you upgrade my electrical panel in Bellflower?

Yes. We upgrade main panels and subpanels for Bellflower homes, including 200A upgrades when load requires it. Every job is different — we provide a custom quote after we see your site. Typical panel upgrade projects often start around $4,957 in labor (14 hours at our standard rate) before materials, permits, and scope; there is no one-size-fits-all maximum.

Can I upgrade my panel without rewiring the house?

Often yes. Many homes only need a new main panel or meter-main while existing branch circuits remain. If we find damaged wiring, aluminum branch circuits that need remediation, knob-and-tube, or overloaded feeders, we recommend targeted repairs or a partial rewire — not a full gut unless the system warrants it.

Should I add a subpanel or upgrade the main panel?

A subpanel helps when the main has capacity but you need more breaker spaces near a garage, ADU, or workshop. If the service ampacity is already maxed (common on 100A), upgrade the main/service first. We calculate load under the CEC/NEC and recommend the smaller correct scope.

Do you need four wires for a subpanel?

Yes. Under the NEC/CEC, a typical subpanel feeder is four-wire: two hots, a neutral, and a separate equipment grounding conductor, with neutrals and grounds isolated on the subpanel bus. Three-wire feeders that bond neutral and ground at the subpanel are not acceptable for modern installs.

"I needed an electrical panel upgrade so I went to YELP for a referral. I requested several quotes and Michael was the first to respond (within minutes). We scheduled an appointment for the following day. He showed up at the precise scheduled time and thoroughly inspected the project and gave me a detailed plan on what was needed. After evaluating several other companies, I decided to go with Michael. His wasn’t the most expensive nor cheapest but his professionalism helped make my decision. He pulled the permit and contacted Edison before starting the job. About a week later we scheduled an appointment for installation, most of which was completed the first day. He came back the next to finish up a few things (cleaning the area each day.) He scheduled his patch & repair person in the following days and the final inspection. My only complaint would be that his patch & repair person was not as meticulous about cleaning the area after he finished his job. Otherwise, from start to finish I am pleased with the outcome. I told Michael he’s my electrician for life now!! Don’t hesitate in hiring him - you won’t be disappointed."

"I recently had First Electric upgrade my electrical panel, and I couldn’t be happier with the experience! Michael came over to do the work, and he was super friendly and really knew his stuff. He explained everything in a way that made sense, so I felt totally comfortable with the whole process. The upgrade itself was done quickly and without any issues, and Michael even noticed a couple of other things around the house that needed some attention, which he fixed right on the spot! I didn’t feel rushed or pressured at all, which I really appreciated. If you need any electrical work done, especially something as important as a panel upgrade, I’d definitely recommend First Electric. I’m so glad I went with them!"
